Once the royal capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Lahaina serves as the gateway to several major resorts areas including, Ka'anapali and Kapalua. During the 19th century Lahaina became the global center of the whaling industry. As many as 400 ships moored off Lahaina Town.
