Colorful, youthful, charming and vibrant is the best description of today’s Paia Town. Paia was once a plantation town-camp filled with immigrants from Japan, China, Portugal and the Philippines, contracted as laborers for the crop called “King Sugar.” Sugar cane fields still surround the quaint town and nearby communities of Spreckelsville and Kuau.
Many historic buildings still exist. The general store, dentist office and sundry shops have been converted into smart boutiques and a variety of savory restaurants. Today Paia is a Mecca filled with residents and tourists who are drawn in to enjoy its diverse offerings and the nearby beaches that are ideal for ocean activities, such as surfing, canoe paddling, wind and kite surfing.
The trade winds manage to keep this coastal community cool. Rainfall average is approximately 30 inches a year. Kahului Airport is approximately 10 to 15 minutes away. Here on the North Shore-Paia you will find a mixture of old and modest plantation homes, golf frontage homes to beach and ocean front homes and estates.
